I am deeply grateful that my mother was led to investigate Christian Science

I am deeply grateful that my mother was led to investigate Christian Science. When this wonderful way of life came into my experience, I was a semi-invalid with a very limited income and a deep sense of loneliness.

It was not with a desire for healing for myself that I began to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but when a sickly condition I had been subjected to for many years presented itself to me again, I turned to the textbook for enlightenment. That afternoon an intestinal parasite passed from me, and I was freed forever of this unpleasantness. Truth and error could not dwell together.

Continuing to read and study, I was directed to seek employment. Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 118), "Be of good cheer; the warfare with one's self is grand; it gives one plenty of employment, and the divine Principle worketh with you, —and obedience crowns persistent effort with everlasting victory." I pondered these words daily. Within three months of starting to study Christian Science—which was during the depression of the 1930's—I was working in a position where I had the opportunity to demonstrate man's at-one-ment with his creator.
