"There is no other way"

The writings of Mrs. Eddy contain many fundamental statements of truth upon which the student of Christian Science may base his work and demonstrations. To study just one of these statements in an earnest endeavor to understand it and apply it to a given situation may do more for the student than hours of casual reading.

In the first of the Bible Lessons recorded in her book "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy writes: "Self-renunciation of all that constitutes a so-called material man, and the acknowledgment and achievement of his spiritual identity as the child of God, is Science that opens the very flood-gates of heaven; whence good flows into every avenue of being, cleansing mortals of all uncleanness, destroying all suffering, and demonstrating the true image and likeness. There is no other way under heaven whereby we can be saved, and man be clothed with might, majesty, and immortality." Mis., p. 185;

The writer had always been afraid. In childhood he was afraid of his parents and relatives, afraid of his schoolteachers and fellow pupils, afraid of meeting people. Later on these fears were repeated in his early business experiences. He was always on the wrong side of the fence, expecting to receive but finding only disappointment and disillusionment. It never occurred to him that he might have something to give and that his own poor estimate of himself was at the root of all his troubles.
