Improving Human Experience

In Hebrews we read of the Word of God shaking the earth and heaven, signifying "the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain." Hebr. 12:27; Every individual's human experience has much in it that can be shaken. But it also contains much that cannot be shaken, that is true and eternal. Most of our troubles come from our failure to distinguish which is which.

When we place our trust in things which can be shaken, believing that they are substantial, we are bound for trouble. And this is just the kind of trouble the world appears to have gotten itself into. International strife, violence over racial problems, poverty, immorality, inadequate education, all stem from a failure to understand true values. And all such problems could be solved through an understanding of what is substantial and what is insubstantial.

Christian Science reveals the fact that God, divine Love, is All. It shows further that man is the likeness, or reflection, of God. It explains that the human individual appears to combine in one person qualities which are Godlike and qualities which are ungod-like. Each individual appears to represent both truth and untruth. Since God is Spirit, the spiritual qualities in man are true. The material qualities are the opposite of Spirit, and therefore, are untrue. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Every object in material thought will be destroyed, but the spiritual idea, whose substance is in Mind, is eternal." Science and Health, p. 267;
