My family and I were led into the study of Christian Science as a direct result of prayer. My husband and I had grown dissatisfied with our former religion and had discontinued churchgoing. During the Second World War, like many other, I turned to God again and resumed my churchgoing, but the feeling of dissatisfaction only grew worse. Our daughter was fast approaching the age when she should be receiving religious instruction, and I became greatly concerned. I decided to take my problem to God every night in prayer, and in the most sincere way I knew I asked Him to lead us to the right religion.

One of our neighbors had a family of friends who were Christian Scientists. These friends visited our neighbor occasionally, usually on a Sunday when the subject of church was fresh in our thought. Sensing our need, the friends began to encourage us to look into Christian Science. We bought a copy of the Bible and the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and started to read them, as well as the periodicals which were given to us by our friends. In less than a year we enrolled our daughter in the Christian Science Sunday School and we attended the Sunday services. I was healed of constipation of many years' standing during the period I was first reading Science and Health.

The year was 1944, and the housing shortage was acute. We felt impelled to sell our house and move closer to the city. Everyone in our circle of friends and neighbors thought we were being most unwise. "Where will you go; where will you live?" they asked. But our faith was unshaken, and we went forward with our plans, feeling strongly there would be a place for us. And so it developed. When the time came, we had our pick of two apartments, and we moved into an area which was reasonably close to our new Christian Science friends, whom we then visited frequently. The Church of Christ, Scientist, they attended was also close by.
