A Parent's Responsibility

One of the great blessings Christian Science bestows on a parent is a knowledge of how to pray effectively for his own child. This prayer places the child mentally in God's heavenly kingdom, in the very presence of his Father-Mother God, at one with his divine Principle, Love. Mrs. Eddy states, "Prayer cannot change the Science of being, but it tends to bring us into harmony with it." Science and Health, p. 2;

The parent is not spiritualizing a mortal child through this prayerful, metaphysical work. He is spiritualizing his own concept of the child, seeing him as he really is, the immortal, spiritual image and likeness of God.

Does it not rest on one who can detect the error, destroy its seeming reality, and realize the perfection of God's creation? Until a child is taught how to do his own metaphysical work to preserve his innate goodness, the responsibility falls on the parent, and it is well for that child whose parent stands as a sentinel ever alert and listening to Truth. Mrs. Eddy gives us a glimpse of the nature and power of Truth when she says, "Truth is a two-edged sword, guarding and guiding." p. 538;
