RADIO PROGRAM NO. 249 - Getting at the Root of Problem Drinking

Announcer: Much humanitarian effort is being made today to help the problem drinker. Yet many people wonder if it's really possible for someone who has become a problem drinker to be genuinely free of the desire for alcohol, or if the best he can hope for is to gain the willpower to be able to stay away from it.

Questioner: It's generally held that if someone has become an alcoholic, the problem can be arrested but never actually overcome. What's your view on this?

Speaker: There is ample evidence today that alcoholism can be completely overcome and eliminated from people's experience. But the drinking is only part of the problem. This is a big subject, and I think we should deal with just one aspect of it, that is, the deep need of regaining an individual's own sense of worth.
