The True Temple of Life

According to a familiar story, two masons were cutting stone for the same building. Each was asked what he was doing. The first replied that he was making blocks for a wall. The second replied that he was helping to build a beautiful temple, dedicated to God. While the purpose of the story may have been to encourage craftsmen not to forsake the pride of good workmanship, the moral may well be applied to the building of a life dedicated to the glory of God.

The instructions for building the true temple or shrine of one's life within individual consciousness were given to mankind centuries ago by Christ Jesus and are made plain to this age through the teachings of Christian Science. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy gives the spiritual definition of "temple." It reads, ''Body; the idea of Life, substance, and intelligence; the superstructure of Truth; the shrine of Love." Science and Health, p. 595;

Such a structure is reared in the heart and requires that one base it upon such qualities of thought as were evidenced by the Master, whose own life rested upon the foundation of divine Truth. He said, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner." Matt. 21: 42; This stone, or rock, to which he referred is the great healing truth that God is infinite Spirit and that man and the universe are His reflections—spiritual, not material.
