About three years ago, and just fifteen minutes before guests began...

About three years ago, and just fifteen minutes before guests began arriving for a holiday open house announcing our daughter's engagement, our son was brought home from an automobile accident with severe head injuries. There was much hemorrhaging. Al-though in a semiconscious condition, he had been able to direct a stranger how to take him home. His car was later declared to be a total loss.

We hurriedly put him to bed, and two relatives, both devoted Christian Scientists, offered to care for him. My husband and I immediately turned to Mrs. Eddy's statements about the unreality of accidents on page 424 of Science and Health, including this one: "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." Holding to this truth, we were able to receive our guests in the adjoining rooms free from any sense of concern.

A practitioner friend, an invited guest, soon arrived and at our request quietly went to work knowing the truth about the entire situation. While the guests were there, the investigating police officer came, completed his report, and left. None of the guests later remembered even seeing him.
