I am deeply grateful for a healing of doubt and fear that came to me through my persistent application of the truths of Christian Science. I had been a student of Christian Science for many years. Then there came a time when disappointment and discontent with some aspects of my human experience were allowed to grow until I began to manifest distressing symptoms of ill health, including pain and loss of weight. With the help of a devoted practitioner, I was just beginning to recover from this illness when the sudden passing of my husband sent me again into darkest doubt and despair. I feared that I would never again be well and useful.

I moved to another city hoping to get a new lease on life. However, I was soon suffering from continual pain, insomnia, and loss of normal appetite. Again a staunch practitioner helped me. After a period of two years of seemingly endless ups and downs, tears and anguish, followed always by renewed courage, I began truly to learn what it means to turn "to the arms of divine Love." As Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 322): "The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science."

All through this trying time I was able to attend church regularly and serve in some capacity. I am so grateful to the practitioner who encouraged me to make the effort to do this, even though many times it seemed mentally and physically impossible for me to do so. Each time I strove to forget self and glorify God, I was helped forward.
