The Golden Rule

[Of special interest to juniors]

There was a big party at Cliff's house. Friends from all over town were arriving, and Cliff was greeting them and showing them where to park. Cliff noticed that a five dollar bill was lying on the ground near the parked cars. He picked up the money, but did not mention it to anyone. Later he realized that if he had lost such a sum of money, he would want to have it returned, and therefore if he were going to do unto others as he would have them do unto him, he should try to return the money.

He told his parents that he had found the money, and this information was given to the guests. Soon one guest realized that she had dropped the money from her purse as she came from the car. She was grateful for the honesty which Cliff expressed. Cliff, of course, was happy that he had been honest and had put into practice the Golden Rule, which Jesus taught, "All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." Matt. 7:12;

In a short time Cliff was to see the honesty expressed in obeying this rule apply in his own experience. He rode his bike to a nearby park where he was going to play football with his friends. After the game, he went home; but later in the evening, he realized that he had left his bike in the park. Although it was raining and dark, he went back to the park, but the bike was not where he had left it.
