In 1958 I had been under a psychiatrist's care for two years due to a nervous breakdown, complicated by numerous physical disorders, including heart palpitation, stomach pains, and malfunctioning kidneys, and by extreme fear of death. One Saturday night, when I was so depressed that life didn't even seem worth living, I asked myself: "Who am I? Why am I here?" These questions haunted me, and I prayed all night.

I had been reading the Bible almost day and night, and this particular statement kept coming to me: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). The next morning I saw for the first time a television program in the then current series entitled "How Christian Science Heals." It impressed me, so I watched again the next Sunday and attended a Christian Science lecture a few days later.

From then on, I started investigating this wonderful religion and attended a Church of Christ, Scientist. With the patient help of a practitioner, all my fears and pains gradually faded away. My complete healing took place over a period of about two years, since I had many lessons to learn and much resentment to overcome. The ninety-first Psalm and the many assurances in the Bible that life is eternal were very helpful at this time.
