When I was a child I was impressed with the thought that the healing method of Jesus was not for just his time alone but was for us to use as well. My mother had attended a Christian Science Sunday School as a girl and had imparted her love of God to me. Although I attended the Sunday School just once when quite young and again for a short time in high school, I always knew that some day I would be a Christian Scientist.

I was often sick in childhood. When at a university, I became ill with a blood condition that necessitated my remaining in bed several months at a time. The second time this happened physicians on the case said that I could never expect to lead a normal, active life.

I did not think of Christian Science at this time, but I did turn to the Bible to lift my thought from intense discouragement. I tried earnestly to replace every dark thought with something inspiring from the Bible.
