RADIO PROGRAM NO. 212 - One Demand of the Prayer That Heals

Questioner: Many people today would acknowledge that prayer has brought practical help and even healing to others. But they often feel that the ability to pray effectively, to have prayer answered, is somewhat like the ability to render a musical composition effectively—some can do that and some cannot. What does the prayer that heals demand?
Speaker: This type of prayer makes a demand on the individual, but it's one that everybody can meet through God's grace and love. Everybody can pray the prayer that heals. The demand that healing prayer makes is a deep Christianization or spiritualization of thought.

The Bible brings out that effective prayer goes deeper than mere words. Christ Jesus, who performed such tremendous healings, said (Matt. 6:7). "When ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do."

The demand of the prayer that heals is indicated in the book of James, where we read (4:8): "Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners;and purify your hearts, ye double minded." And the same writer also said (5:16), "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." Now, these statements make it plain that one important demand of effective prayer is to "draw nigh to God."
