Pure Desire Heals

Much time is spent in desiring, or in longing for, that which one does not have. Some of these longings or desires are from God, good, and therefore should be cherished and attained, while others are evil or selfish and should be destroyed. The ability to distinguish between right and wrong desires spares one many mistakes and much waste of time and contributes greatly to his spiritual progress. Therefore this ability is something that should be developed and utilized.

One dictionary defines "desire" as "a longing or craving,... a strong feeling, worthy or unworthy, that impels to the attainment or possession of something which is...within reach." A desire— a worthy desire—is thus a positive mental and moral force that impels action, even the attainment of some good desired. Such a desire is Christly in nature; it is from God, the source of all that really exists. In her "Miscellaneous Writings," the great prophet of this age, Mrs. Eddy, says, "Immortal Mind is God; and this Mind is made manifest in all thoughts and desires that draw mankind toward purity, health, holiness, and the spiritual facts of being." Mis., p. 37;

Any thought or desire that is a manifestation of the divine Mind is spiritual and eternal. Being Christly in nature, it comes clothed in ineffable beauty and light. When it becomes active in human consciousness, it dispels mental darkness and casts out sin and disease. This desire is thus the prayer of the righteous, which our heavenly Father hears and answers.
