One Sunday afternoon when I was playing tennis I felt a tendon...

One Sunday afternoon when I was playing tennis I felt a tendon snap in my right leg. I endeavored to carry on playing and to deny the error, but my friends quickly gave their opinion that I had torn a tendon and forecast that it would be several weeks before I would be able to play tennis again. When the time came to go home, it was all I could do to get to my car using my tennis racket as a walking stick.

As soon as I got home I telephoned to a dear friend and asked her to help me in Christian Science. She told me that I must first emphatically deny the reality of pain and injury; then she advised me to study the answer to the question, "What is man?" on pages 475 to 477 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Among the truths contained in these pages is this one (p. 475): "Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique." My friend gave me other helpful thoughts and said she would give me treatment.

As I studied, an overwhelming sense of gratitude for Christian Science and all that it had come to mean to me and my family came upon me. I was boundlessly grateful for the change it had wrought in our lives since we were introduced to it eleven years ago.
