True Energy Is Divine
Energy may be considered as the capacity to produce an effect. We can see in the harmonious spiritual universe and man the effect of the divine energy coming from the creative Principle, God, and manifesting the nature of divine Love. But if we are faced with the evidence of evil, sin, disease, and death, we might well ask, "What is the energy involved in producing these effects, and how do we counteract such energy and destroy these errors?"
Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 534), "The Son of the Virgin-mother unfolded the remedy for Adam, or error; and the Apostle Paul explains this warfare between the idea of divine power, which Jesus presented, and mythological material intelligence called energy and opposed to Spirit."
This mythological material intelligence is named in the Bible the carnal mind, and it is based upon the belief that there is life and intelligence in matter. The carnal mind is the so-called energy involved in all the discord and suffering of mankind. It is further defined by Paul as "enmity against God" (Rom. 8:7) and is variously referred to as devil, Satan, evil. But it should be remembered that a myth has no foundation in fact.
