Over a period of about six...
Over a period of about six months a skin condition spread over most of my body. It was not a painful malady, and I did no prayerful work about it. But the alarm evidenced by a doctor giving me a mandatory physical examination made it clear that the condition must be healed.
It was obvious to the Christian Science practitioner consulted that I was believing I was a mortal in need of a healing rather than God's perfect reflection, which is and always has been whole and complete. The practitioner pointed out that we say we come in contact with the world with our skin. Then she emphasized the importance of keeping consciousness clear regarding the fact that man in God's likeness is always harmoniously related to his spiritual environment. Study and prayer established the nonexistence of fear of failure, doubt, resistance, repressed resentment, self-pity, discouragement.
It was revealed that shyness is not a virtue, as it is sometimes thought to be. A tendency to withdraw is the result of selfishness, of thought turned inward. It became apparent that I should make a greater effort to stop condemning myself, to see the perfection of man's true selfhood, to value my true selfhood, and to express it in my relations with everyone.
