One day, over six years ago, the entire left side of my body, including the arm and leg, became totally paralyzed. I even lost my speech. I felt no pain, but I just lay hopelessly in bed and awaited whatever might come.

As the result of a visit of a neighbor and his wife, who are adherents of Christian Science, I asked a Christian Science practitioner to visit me. He came, gave me a rudimentary explanation of his religion, which impressed me very much, read to me from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and frequently brought me copies of the Christian Science periodicals, which I read with great interest.

The practitioner continued to give me treatment, and I obtained a copy of the textbook, which I studied daily. From day to day I noticed that the paralysis was lessening, the limbs were becoming movable, and I was regaining my speech. At the same time, my spiritual understanding was increasing. Eventually I was completely free.
