Pupils and the Christian Science Movement

The teens are years bursting with activity! And a great deal of what teen-agers are doing is preparing them for future service and leadership. Sunday School too should be doing this.

A former pupil wrote of her gratitude for the teacher who spanned for her the gap between Sunday School and membership in a branch church. If pupils are using what they have learned, they will have much for which to be grateful, and church membership is a natural result of this gratitude. But pupils want to know about the church they will join and the activities of the Christian Science movement.

The Manual by Mrs. Eddy provides that the Scriptures and absolute Christian Science are correct subjects for Sunday School, but teachers can answer questions about the movement. They can also discuss its activities before or after the exercises. But have they prepared themselves to talk about the Christian Science periodicals, college organizations, Reading Rooms, lectures, nurses. Chaplains, Ministers for the Armed Services, and class instruction? Can they explain clearly the difference between Sunday, Wednesday, Thanksgiving, and Communion services? Could they tell about their branch church and its membership requirements?
