Some twenty years ago I was healed of a severe sinus infection which I had had for several years. Because I had had no personal experience of Christian Science healing, I was under medical care, and the time had come when an operation was urgent. I was told, however, that the relief offered by the operation would be temporary and that a series of operations would follow. This was not a happy outlook for me, so I put off the operation.

At this time the literature distribution committee of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, began delivering literature to our place of business. Prayer had been a very important factor in my life since childhood, but I realized that the prayer mentioned in this literature did not conform to the ordinary concept of prayer, and I was eager to know more about it.

Upon learning that the first chapter in the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was entitled "Prayer," I was led to a Christian Science Reading Room to borrow the book and read that chapter. That is all I read for several days. I learned the meaning of true prayer, how to pray, and what to pray for. I completely forgot self and worldly things and suddenly realized on the third day that I had been healed. The healing has been permanent.
