Billy Learns How to Be Grateful

[Of special interest to children]

The summer before Billy was to begin going to school, he and his family moved to a new house in the country. Billy loved everything about the place—the trees to climb, the fields to explore, the animals to discover. There was even a big rock foundation of an old barn where Billy and his brother played cowboys and Indians or soldiers or explorers. Each day was a wonderful new adventure.

Billy also liked to look at the new school where he was to go. He thought what fun it was going to be to ride on the shiny yellow school bus every morning.

The day before school was to start, Billy's grandmother and grandfather came for a picnic. It was a lovely day, but Billy didn't feel well. He said to his grandmother, "How can I go to my new school tomorrow when I feel like this?" Then he lay down on his bed, very sorry for himself.
