Words of Current Interest
The words in this issue are related to the Lesson Sermon in the CHRISTIAN SCIENCE QUARTERLY designated to be read in Christian Science churches on November 13, 1966.
Ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you (Rom. 8:9)
When in the Greek of the New Testament we find sarx (flesh) distinguished from pneuma (Spirit), sarx often refers to what Thayer calls "mere human nature, the earthly part of man apart from divine influence," while the Greek word rendered "if so be" can mean "if indeed" or "since." Goodspced gives this translation: "You are not physical but spiritual if God's Spirit has really taken possession of you"; and an alternative rendering would be, "You are not material but spiritual since God's Spirit dwells within you."
And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee (Ps. 39:7)
