My introduction to Christian Science came when I was a college...

My introduction to Christian Science came when I was a collcge student. I had been brought up in a Protestant faith, but I was unsatisfied with my understanding of God and my relationship to Him. At this time I was dating a Christian Scientist, who now is my husband. I began asking questions about Science and then attended a lecture on our college campus given by the Christian Science college organization. This lecture was an awakening to Truth and the beginning of my mental regeneration. The words spoken were words I had been waiting to hear, and they answered many of my questions concerning God and man. After this I began attending Christian Science church services and studying the Quarterly Lesson-Sermon.

My parents, not respecting my change of religious beliefs, tried to make it difficult for me to continue in this religion. Furthermore, they did not want me to marry this young man who had helped me begin my study of Christian Science. Even though they withdrew their complete support of my educational expenses my last three semesters in college, I was sustained by God and was able to obtain the funds necessary to receive my degree in the time appointed. It was essential for me to gain an understanding of God as the Mother and Father of man and to establish the true sense of family, because I loved my parents very much. Yet, I knew I was making a progressive step by studying Christian Science.

I shall always be grateful for the help of a practitioner and also of my husband's mother. They answered many of my questions and gave me loving support during this difficult time. One of the statements that guided me is from "Pulpit and Press" by Mrs. Eddy and reads (p. 3), "Know, then, that you possess sovereign power to think and act rightly, and that nothing can dispossess you of this heritage and trespass on Love."
