Working in Science
It is sometimes assumed that work is a tedious or ever a painful activity, a necessary means to an end, a burden that must be endured. On the other hand, many enjoy their occupation or work for its own sake. And when this is true it is indeed a blessing. This is always true, or can be, for the one who learns and applies, or works in, Christian Science.
The immediate goal is healing, much wanted and much appreciated. The ultimate joy of work is in regeneration or salvation. But it is found that the work which brings the healing and spiritual progress can itself be a thoroughly happy experience.
Paul assured the Philippians (2:13), "It is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." It might be said that God not only moves us to work but supports us in our work. On learning this, those who seek healing find new inspiration. They are no longer inclined to search, out easy ways requiring no mental efforts. The work or mental effort not only proves possible but becomes stimulating. Then the healing is likely to come more quickly. And it is certain that the final goal of spiritualization is closer. From the very beginning it is a joyful activity.
