When I first began studying Christian Science, I had been under the care of a physician for three years because of an internal trouble. At the end of that time he told me he did not know what the trouble was. When I had severe attacks of pain, he just gave me pills to relieve them. He said he would be glad to operate, but had no idea whether surgery would either help or heal me.

I was an atheist at the time, but I had suffered so much that I was willing to try anything. I had an aunt who was a Christian Scientist, and her prayerful work had healed me of several illnesses. So I told the physician I was going to try Christian Science. I was almost completely healed after the first treatment and was completely healed soon after. Since then I have relied entirely on Christian Science for everything, including the rearing of four children.

My youngest son was healed of erysipelas at the age of one year. A physician had been called by a member of the family who was not a Scientist. The physician explained that the infection would result in the baby's death. He said it was no use giving him medicine as he was too young to take anything strong enough to do him any good.
