When I was about fifteen years...
When I was about fifteen years of age our family doctor told my parents that I was suffering from anemia, and this was given as the reason why I did not take part in games and sports that other girls of my age were enjoying. Many years later it was again pointed out that I still had this condition.
After taking up the study of Christian Science, I experienced improvement in my health, but this was followed by a relapse. However, by this time I had learned to turn to the writings of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, when anything disturbed me, and on this occasion I read the following words from "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 346): "It is a rule in Christian Science never to repeat error unless it becomes requisite to bring out Truth."
I was so sure that this message did not apply to my case that I dismissed it; but that evening, when the family gathered together, I was startled to find how much of the conversation was about other people's affairs and mostly their mistakes and failings. I explained to the family what I had been reading, and we all agreed that this unloving practice must be discontinued.
