The Destiny of the Children
Mary Baker Eddy made this prophecy in 1895 (Pulpit and Press, p. 8): "The children are destined to witness results which will eclipse Oriental dreams. They belong to the twentieth century." She added. "Ah, children, you are the bulwarks of freedom, the cement of society, the hope of our race!"
These words were written on the occasion of the dedication of the original edifice of The Mother Church. In order to realize how perfectly her prediction has been fulfilled, one only needs to note the swift and radical changes which have taken place in the world since our Leader prophesied thus. Mrs. Eddy saw the possibilities of the unbiased mind dwelling in a world which had received—because it was ready to receive—the Science of Christ, or Christian Science.
Great things have been accomplished by the children whose destiny Mrs. Eddy mentioned in her prophecy. They have been among the elders of this century, the members of the Church our Leader founded. The sick have been healed, the sinful have been regenerated, the Christian Science movement has expanded, limitations have been greatly lessened in many areas of human accomplishment. Indeed, "Oriental dreams" have been eclipsed.
