Shortly before my introduction...
Shortly before my introduction to Christian Science, I was smitten with a severe skin disease which covered my entire face, scalp, and body. Upon consulting one of the leading dermatologists in New York City, I was told that I could never be healed and that I should expect to have the disease for the rest of my life. However, this specialist said he would prescribe treatments which might alleviate the condition. Many forms of treatment were tried over a long period of time, but none of them healed the condition; in fact, sometimes it grew worse.
Not only was my appearance distressing, but I was mentally depressed, for there seemed to be no hope.
At about this time I was introduced to Christian Science, and I began to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and to study the Lesson-Sermon, provided in the Christian Science Quarterly. I saw that Science is the truth and that matter is not to be relied upon as a healing aid. I knew that Truth would manifest itself naturally. As a result I was at once healed of chronic constipation, which had persisted from babyhood.
