I find it difficult to express the...
I find it difficult to express the love and gratitude which I feel for our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who discovered Christian Science and shared it with all mankind.
I was twenty-three when I first became interested in Science. A brother of a friend of mine had an instantaneous healing of pneumonia through it, and naturally she wanted to investigate it. She invited me to attend services it a branch church with her, and we both enjoyed them very much.
We were told that we could borrow Science and Health In Mrs. Eddy from the free-loan library in the Reading Room maintained by the church. I borrowed the book; and before I had finished reading it. I was healed of sick headaches which I experienced quite frequently and which kept me bedridden for three or four days. These headaches passed away before I realized it, for which I was very grateful.
One winter night I hurt my spine. I was outdoors when I injured myself, and I could hardly manage to get back home. My father wanted me to call a physician, but I told him that I would call a Christian Science practitioner; this seemed to satisfy him that I was being cared for. The practitioner assured me over the telephone that God's man cannot fall. He is made perfect and upright.
I had to be helped to bed, because I was in severe pain. I kept repeating the truth spoken by the practitioner the greater part of the night until I fell asleep. In the morning I awoke perfectly healed.
At another time I was walking down the street, and all of a sudden my foot felt as though a bone were broken in it. I could not take another step. I began to sing one of our hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. It was 139 and the first verse reads,
I walk with Love along the way,
And O, it is a holy day:
No more I suffer cruel fear,
I feel God's presence with me here;
The joy that none can take away
Is mine; I walk with Love today.
I am thankful for all these healings and for many healings in my immediate family.
I am grateful to God for the friend who introduced Christian Science to me, for the help of practitioners, and for the privilege of serving in the Field as a Christian Science nurse, as librarian in a Christian Science Reading Room, and in other activities in a branch church.
I am thankful for having had class instruction, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. I am grateful for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, who gave us the precious, healing truth. Words cannot express my gratitude for Christian Science. All I can say is, "Thank You, God."—(Miss) Lillian Gertrude Lang, Dubuque, Iowa.
