The Bible account of the crossing of the Red Sea by the children of Israel has been a favorite of readers, both young and old, for generations.

During the Second World War, I had an experience in which the omnipotence of God stood forth undeniably. Our group, based in England, was participating in a large-scale mission to resupply our forces in France. The primary airfield being closed by fog, we landed our aircraft at an alternate one. Shortly thereafter we also were fogged in and had to spend the night in our planes. The reports were dismal. Weather conditions and spirits had hit a low ebb. Forecasts promised similar conditions for possibly days. It was Christmas Eve, 1944. Thoughts drifted back to homes and families; for many it was their first Christmas away from home. Gloom seemed everywhere.

During that night many were quietly by themselves in prayer. I, for one, being a Christian Scientist, prayed for a fuller realization of God's presence right there, right then. These words from "The Mother's Evening Prayer" by Mary Baker Eddy came to me (Poems, p. 4):
