My first healing took place almost as soon as I started studying Christian Science. One of my voice students was a Christian Scientist, and she recommended her religion to me. I began visiting a Christian Science practitioner, and one day I mentioned to her that I had had a condition of chronic constipation since childhood and that all the cures I had tried were of no avail, so I was compelled to take a pill every night. She replied that as long as I did not rely completely on God for my healing but resorted to medical help, she could not work for me in Christian Science.

From that day on, I studied seriously, stopped taking the pills, and the practitioner gave me treatment. After three weeks I said to her that I could not go on that way. She told me that I had the free choice of going back to my old way of thinking or of continuing with Christian Science treatment, and right then and there I made the decision to rely completely on Science, no matter what happened to me. That very evening the healing was complete.

In a fall quite recently I cut a big hole in the back of my head. I fell so awkwardly that I could not at first move an inch, and meanwhile the cut was bleeding profusely. I repeated "the scientific statement of being" and felt so at one with God that after half an hour I received the strength to move. The statement is on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and contains the truth that "Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal."
