I first heard of Christian Science...
I first heard of Christian Science many years ago when I had an employer who was, and is, a consecrated Christian Scientist. Simultaneously, I went to live in the home of another Scientist, a woman who was alone. Progress in the study of Science brought promotion in business, and my next employer was also a student of this religion.
God was truly "working His purpose out" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 82). After I had taken up the earnest study of this religion, the healings I recall impressing me particularly, perhaps because of the previous tenacity of the habits, were those of smoking and social drinking.
After Christian Science had done so much for me and I began to love it and its teaching and its noble way of life, I asked myself what I might now do for it. Knowing that church membership could not be realized until my freedom from these enslaving habits was gained, my third attempt to become free succeeded through the invited help of a practitioner, who said to me, "If you really want to be healed, you are healed." And I was. This healing took place many years ago, and there has never been even a temptation to smoke or drink since.
