Character Is Important Too
[Of Special Interest to Young Men and Women]
"Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid," said Jesus (John 14:27). This advice is very appropriate today when so many young people at school, college, or university find themselves faced with important examinations, upon the passing of which their future seems to depend.
A young student of Christian Science had the ambition to become a schoolteacher, and accordingly he embarked upon a course at a university in order to obtain the necessary qualifications. He worked diligently at his studies; but as his final examinations approached, a sense of fear began to disturb his thought, and he seemed unable to control it.
When he came to take the first examination, he was so nervous that he hardly knew what he was writing. His nervousness gradually lessened during the remaining examinations; but when the results were published, he found he had failed. Like Job, he could have said, "The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me" (Job 3:25).
