Activities for the Armed Services

Church, as a spiritual idea, is ever present and all-embracing. A veteran of World War II who understood these spiritual facts and who recognized that Church is not a material building in a specific place said recently, "While I was in the Marine Corps I had constant companionship with the spiritual idea of Church."

Those Christian Scientists in the Armed Forces who understand these truths find Church everywhere and enjoy its beneficent influence. But when this knowledge is lacking, people may need to be awakened to it. One who needed this awakening was a young serviceman who had strayed from the practice of Christian Science. Unhappy and disturbed, he was reluctant to attend the services held at the base. After being contacted several times by the Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services, he finally attended a midweek meeting. He enjoyed it so much that he began attending regularly and soon began going to church in a neighboring city also.

This was the turning point for him. He started studying and working out his problems through Christian Science. Occasionally he called the Minister for help. His spiritual growth was evident and continuous. Eventually he became a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church and is now enjoying the benefits and responsibilities of membership.
