RADIO PROGRAM No. 129 - Divine Help Wherever You Are

INTERVIEWER: Many people wonder whether faith in God makes sense today. Often faith has given way to doubt. Paul Tillich speaks of this in his book "The New Being." He says, "Long before the Christian era people spoke of the divine providence at work behind the driving forces of life and history. And in Christianity the words of Jesus about the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, and his command not to be anxious about tomorrow, have strengthened the faith in providence. It became the most common belief of Christian people. It gave them courage in danger, consolation in sorrow, hope among ruins. But more and more this faith lost its depth." (© 1955, by Paul Tillich. When faith loses its depth or substance, it is easy for people to think it is old-fashioned. What is your comment on this?

SPEAKER: Is understanding old-fashioned? Faith, to be provable, must be based upon the understanding of man's spiritual relationship to God. When it is so based, it is not old-fashioned; in fact, it is ahead of the times. You see, we need to be conscious of and to understand the tender loving care of God, divine Love, as He is described in the Bible.
