"There are no favorite sons or daughters in God's family"
Several hundred years before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the prophet Micah lived in a farming community not far from Jerusalem, a community where the peasants were oppressed by wealthy landowners. Micah saw the dangers of material-mindedness, and he prayerfully tried to overcome the people's discouragement by showing them God's reasonable demands of them. He wrote (6:8), "What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"
