Spiritual Vitality

The world needs spiritual vitality. Too often vigor is expended in destructive or aimless directions, or perhaps too little vigor is manifested when right efforts are undertaken. Christian Science straightens out the subject by showing that true vitality is from God and that it only awaits release in human thought through the knowledge of man and his relation to his animating Principle, his divine source.

Sometimes students of Christian Science seem well fitted to enter the public practice of this Science, but they lack the spiritual vitality that they need to plunge them into the full-scale dedication to the truth of being which the practice requires. Animal magnetism, or evil mind, would chill the love that is needed for this service. But an honest appraisal of reluctance to help enlighten the race and a persistent denial of that reluctance as unnatural and unreal will bring to light the vigor needed. Laziness, unwillingness to abandon professions less exacting in self-denial, and a paucity of compassion may be among the unhandled suggestions of the carnal mind, which stand in the way of the spiritual vitality needed.

This vitality is natural to man, God's likeness, and the student should be awake to the potential of spiritual vigor latent in everyone. Christ Jesus understood this potential so well that he could rouse spiritual vigor instantly by the touch of his Christly compassion. He made ardent disciples, and continues to do so to this day. He said of his followers (John 10:10), "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
