I was reared in Christian Science,...

I was reared in Christian Science, and I attended Sunday School until I was eighteen years of age. However, during my tour of service in the Second World War, I gradually fell away from the study of this religion. Although not subscribing to any other faith, I did not feel it necessary to apply and live the basic truths that I had been taught as a Sunday School pupil.

Then I found myself confronted with a serious physical problem. It was diagnosed as pernicious anemia, rare in a young person. Medical treatment was begun and continued for about six months but was of no avail. The condition grew steadily worse. I could neither eat nor sleep.

In desperation I asked my parents if they felt Christian Science could help me. They assured me it could and recommended treatment from a practitioner. This was indeed a turning point in my life. The practitioner asked if I was willing to rely entirely on Christian Science for healing. I replied that all other treatment would be dispensed with and that I would put myself completely in God's care. The results were almost immediate. Within one week my appetite returned, and life assumed a new meaning.
