As a young girl I was ill for a long time and had to remain in bed for many months. During this period I often wondered about the cause of my illness. To me it seemed illogical that I could become ill so suddenly. I was convinced that there was a loving God because I had deduced this from nature, and for that reason I could not believe that this illness was God's will.

Therefore f came to the conclusion that we as human beings did something wrong and thereby caused sickness. What this was, I did not know. But when years later I came into contact with Christian Science and someone lent me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I felt that what I was reading was the truth.

At that time I was suffering from a gallbladder infection for which I took medicine regularly, and a doctor had predicted that the gallbladder would have to be removed someday. When f started studying Science and Health I immediately threw away the medicine because I realized I did not have to aid God with material means. But the healing did not follow immediately.
