Always Prepared

Our Christian Science Reading Rooms take their place in the community as fruitful centers of spiritual activity. To do this, they need earnest spiritual preparation by those who serve in them as well as inspired support by the church members.

What enables a Reading Room to prove its usefulness? Of great convenience, both to the church member and to the new inquirer, is an easily accessible location. Also desirable are an amply stocked salesroom, a quiet study room really conducive to study, and a librarian whose thought is filled with love for the Reading Room's mission and for his fellow-men.

The real, attracting influence is the atmosphere of the Christ. Mrs. Eddy writes: "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness" (Science and Health, p. 332). A Christly atmosphere makes itself felt in the welcome of a gracious librarian's smile, in his compassionate thought, in his readiness to feed the hungry heart with spiritual sustenance. It is sometimes helpful if the librarian invites the visitor to seek help in a deeper understanding of God and of man as God's reflection.
