"Trials are proofs of God's care"

[Of Special Interest to Juniors]

From the very first, Marie loved the Christian Science Sunday School. She loved its teachings. She learned that God is Spirit, the loving Father-Mother, and that man is God's perfect image. She learned also that God is always present to help anyone in trouble—forgiving the repentant sinner, healing the sick, and comforting the sorrowing. This new concept of God was precious to her. The Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer, all had a new meaning. Marie's heart sang with joy. It was like having wings and being able to fly above the earth— above all the false beliefs that she had previously been taught and had accepted.

After several years had passed, in which Marie was free from illness, she decided that because she was now a Christian Scientist, she would never be sick anymore. But during an epidemic, in spite of her decision, she too became very ill. The sickness seemed so real that it was necessary to ask for help from a practitioner, who had a clear understanding of God's healing power.

In a few days Marie was feeling well again. She was grateful to God for her healing and for the dear practitioner who had helped her through prayer. But most of all she was grateful to God for the lesson she had learned. For during the days of her illness, Marie had wondered why she had become sick, even though she knew of God's goodness and His tender, loving care. Then one day when she was reading from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, she saw this statement on page 66: "Trials are proofs of God's care."
