Abundant blessings have been mine during the many years I have been a student of Christian Science. I have been blessed in ways beyond count. I did not come to Science for healing; I was seeking a more satisfying sense of religion. The logic and practicality of Christian Science appealed to me at once.

My first healing came entirely through reading the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. It had been misery for me to go near garden flowers or to be near hay in the fields because of hay fever. This was a great limitation, for my work was photographing gardens and wild flowers. This healing, which took place over forty years ago, has been permanent. I have also been healed of having frequent colds, influenza and sore throats. When traveling in many parts of the world, I have been divinely guided and protected.

Very soon after starting the study of Christian Science, I found that the habit of smoking had left me. I realized that I had been healed, but still did not see why I should not smoke. I thought that Mrs. Eddy's comments on smoking merely reflected the thinking of her times. When, two years later, I was picnicking with friends in the mountains, it was suggested that we smoke to keep off the mosquitoes. I joined in, for I did not see why I should not. So for a few weeks I smoked again.
