A Healing Atmosphere

The librarian and his staff are largely responsible for the Christlike atmosphere of a Christian Science Reading Room. This entails an acknowledgment and understanding of the ever-present Christ, Truth, to heal, enlighten, and comfort and a conviction of its adequacy to meet all human needs.

In "Retrospection and Introspection," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, describes the quality of thought that is needed. She says (p. 93), "The best spiritual type of Christly method for uplifting human thought and imparting divine Truth, is stationary power, stillness, and strength; and when this spiritual ideal is made our own, it becomes the model for human action." How important, then, are the qualities of spiritual integrity and strength, love, humility, purity of thought, moral courage, steadfastness!

Furthermore, in preparing for the daily Reading Room activity, the workers should heed the three statements for the guidance of church members which Mrs. Eddy gives in the Manual (Art. VIII, Sects. 1, 4, 6): "A Rule for Motives and Acts," "Daily Prayer," and "Alertness to Duty."
