Through my first healing in Christian Science I gained the pearl of great price, for I thereby found the truth that makes free. This healing, which I shall relate, has been permanent.

In 1943 I was quite ill, suffering from what had been diagnosed by the medical profession as gallstones. Finally, the doctor indicated that an operation was the only possible cure, and I agreed to this.

However, before this step was taken, I kept an appointment with my hairdresser, whom I loved and respected very much. When I told her about the scheduled operation, she asked me if I would visit a Christian Science practitioner. I knew nothing about Science or practitioners, but I promised to do this.
