Church Dedications
San Carlos Enquirer
San Carlos, California (First Church).
First Church of Christ, Scientist, San Carlos, dedicated its church building at Woodland and Arroyo Avenues, Sunday.
Christian Science came to San Carlos in 1949 when a small group organized. In April of that year they were recognized as a Christian Science Society by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. Services were then held in the American Legion Hall.
By the summer of 1950, the land on which the present church building is located was purchased. Construction of the building was begun three years later.
The church building, of contemporary design, was completed early in 1954, and the first service was held there on April 4 of that year.
A Reading Room in the church building was relocated at 666 Laurel Street in 1958.
Christian Science churches must be free of debt before dedicating. A gift from the Selina C. Cornish Fund was of assistance in completing payment for the property.—San Carlos Enquirer (May 22, 1963).
