"Go ye into all the world"
On the eve of his ascension Christ Jesus met with his disciples and commanded them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). In the ensuing years many earnest Christians have endeavored to obey this command according to their highest understanding, preaching the Word of God not only in their own localities but in faraway lands that the world might know of the promised blessings and therefore receive them.
After Mrs. Eddy was led to discover Christian Science, she was inspired to write the textbook, Science and Health, so that every individual seeking a higher concept of God and man's relationship to Him might share in her revelation. The unselfed love and childlike obedience which motivated all her activities were expressed in her tireless efforts to awaken mankind to the blessings available here and now.
In the early days following her discovery, Mrs. Eddy was told of a woman who might be interested in Christian Science. She walked five miles to call on her, only to have the door closed in her face, and then she had to walk back five miles. (See Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy by Irving C. Tomlinson, p. 44.)
