"God is ... a very present help"

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Peter had been attending a Christian Science Sunday School for several years. Each week he eagerly climbed the steps which led to the Sunday School room and took his place in a class of boys and girls who were learning of God. The teacher told them Bible stories about children. She told them too of Jesus' love for children.

Peter had his own copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which had been given to him by some friends. Each Sunday he carried it with him to Sunday School. He liked to look in the back of the book, in the Glossary, where the seven synonyms, or names, for God are listed. They are part of the definition of God (p. 587): "Principle; Mind;Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love."

One winter morning Peter awoke to find the ground covered with snow. As soon as he was dressed and had eaten his breakfast, he joined two of his friends to romp and play. They had a fine time, running and jumping and playing games in the fluffy white snow. Later in the morning his father drove the family downtown to do some shopping. Then they stopped to have lunch in a restaurant.
