Let's Find It Out Now!
Most of us want to learn about eternal life, what it is, and how to attain it. Surely all of us would agree on one thing: money cannot buy eternal life. A rich young man once asked Christ Jesus, "What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" (Matt. 19:16.) When Jesus told him that he must keep the Ten Commandments, the young man replied that he had always obeyed them, but he wanted to know what he still lacked. The Master told him that he must sell all that he had and give to the poor; thus he would gain spiritual treasure. Then he was to follow the Christ, Truth. The young man went away very sad, for he did not wish to part with his material wealth.
On another occasion the great Way-shower said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3). Jesus knew that infinite Spirit is the all-inclusive, omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient Life. Thus, through his deep and limitless spiritual understanding of God and of His spiritual image, man, the Master healed instantly the sick and the sinner and raised the dead to life. Jesus never believed in the reality of death; therefore he could not actually experience what he did not allow his thought to entertain. He came to prove that our real Life is Spirit and that death is a lie, nothing.
Christian Science teaches this spiritual view of Life. "Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof," Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 246). We must not only find out the truth of eternal Life but also begin to demonstrate this truth now. Certainly this demonstration will involve hard work, but it can also be a joyous experience.
