Putting On Immortality
"The recipe for immortality is the understanding
of God and of His beloved Son"
The Old Testament accounts of Enoch's being translated and Elijah's being caught up to God must have kindled the hopes of the followers of the Hebrew Scriptures. Here it was seen possible for an individual to be translated from an earthly experience into a heavenly state without first undergoing a death process. But it was left for Christ Jesus to teach mankind that immortality is at hand and not just a fond dream of mortals. He demonstrated through his own life and works that the absolute nature of God and man is eternal. In his prayer to God when he was with his disciples before the crucifixion, Jesus said, according to John (17:3), "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."
