Responsibility of Parents

Last week, in the September 7 issue of the Sentinel, an editorial appeared on the subject of requests for exemptions from medical indoctrination, examination, and treatment of the children of Christian Scientists. And a strong, uncompromising stand for spiritual freedom to follow Christian Science was advocated.

With the schools and colleges opening throughout much of the world in the following weeks, it is an appropriate time to carry the discussion farther. Although such exemptions should be asked for our children and young people, exemptions of themselves do not cover the entire subject of resistance to medical indoctrination and imposition. Parents should not believe that they have fulfilled their duty when they have requested and obtained exemptions. They have a continuing responsibility as Christian Science parents.

The more important aspect of the subject of exemptions is the scientific education the children should receive in their homes— education which will condition them to meet intelligently the materialistic suggestions that deluge the public mind. There should be no vacuum of knowledge in regard to healing the sick or preventing illness by means of Science.
